Freedom Camping Over From Our Place
There is a freedom camping zone along Marine Parade right over the road from our place. A green self containment sticker on your camper vehicle is required. You can wake up and stroll over to the beach for sunrise and surf, or surf then camp overnight. Or do both!

New Brighton Pier
Extending 300m out into Pegasus Bay, the 7m high concrete pier is a spectacular place to view the sunrise and sunset over the South Pacific. During the day, you might catch surfers, kite surfers, sand yachts, people fishing, and maybe even a hectors dolphins passing by.

He Puna Taimona Hot Pools
In the heart of New Brighton village, right beside the beach, He Puna Te Waimaona is the ultimate way to unwind. There are five heated pools, a separate plunge pool, sauna, and café. While you soak up the atmosphere, you can enjoy views of the ocean, pier, the bay and beyond.

South New Brighton Holiday Park
Only 15 minutes drive from the city CBD, this oasis is nestled between the estuary and nearby beach. A range of accomodation options and facilites are provided – an excellent place to relax and explore Christchurch.

Estuary Walking & Biking Trails
Walk or bike the trails alongside the internationally recoginised Ihutai (Avon-Heathcote Estuary), home to around 150 bird species, including the renowned migrating godwits.

Dune Cafe
South Brighton’s very own neighbourhood cafe adjoinging the community hub. A bright and welcoming space to share with whānau and friends over delicious kai and coffee.

Southshore Spit Reserve
Arguably Christchurch’s best kept secret – a wonderful natural environment where the ocean and estuary waters meet. You can walk dune, beach and estuary trails, backdropped by the volcanic Port Hills. Along the way, wetland and sea birds complete the enchanting journey.

Migrating Godwits
From September to March, the estuary is home to the bar-tailed godwits. These birds undertake one of the furtherest migratory flights (12,000km) on the planet. Their longest non-stop migration from the northern Arctic (Alaska) to New Zealand, takes only 8-10 days.
